Greta Scarano Opens and Closes Venice 83: A Proud Moment for Cinesorriso

There are some pieces of news that make us especially happy. One of them is the decision by La Biennale di Venezia to entrust Greta Scarano, together with Nicolas Maupas, with hosting the opening and closing ceremonies of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, taking place from 2 to 12 September 2026.

For all of us at Cinesorriso, this appointment has a very special meaning.

Greta Scarano was the recipient of the Cinesorriso Award for Best Directorial Debut, a recognition we presented with the conviction that we were witnessing the emergence of a filmmaker destined to leave her mark on Italian cinema.

After establishing herself as an actress, Greta courageously and sensitively embraced the challenge of directing, making her first feature film and demonstrating a personal, mature and authentic directorial vision.
