Humor as a Lens on the Present

Our Perspective

Our Perspective

The Festival presents itself as an innovative cultural container, capable of bringing together cinema, culture and entertainment through screenings, retrospectives, meetings, masterclasses, live events, a competition and lifetime achievement awards.

The initiative addresses a broad and diverse audience, with particular attention to digital languages and younger generations, explored through the section dedicated to new media.

Cinema New Media

Two Categories, One Vision

Cinema and new media are not separate worlds, but languages in dialogue. Cinesorriso places them on the same level, recognizing in humor a common ground capable of crossing generations, platforms and different expressive forms.

Cinema

The Cinema section presents a selection of works that interpret humor as a high form of storytelling. Films capable of combining lightness and depth, irony and social observation, placing at the center authors and performers who portray the present with a critical and human gaze.

New Media

The New Media section explores the new expressions of humor born on digital platforms. Creators, authors and performers who experiment with agile, immediate and interactive languages, redefining the relationship with the audience. Not an alternative to cinema, but a natural extension of humorous storytelling.

Why Cinesorriso?

Between the 1950s and 1960s, the Riviera hosted an elegant showcase dedicated to humorous cinema – the Festival of Comic and Humorous Cinema – which, together with Venice and San Sebastian, became a reference point for international comedy, featuring highly prestigious guests.

Today Imperia embraces that legacy and reinterprets it in a contemporary key, enhancing the Teatro Cavour, recently renovated and equipped with the most modern technologies, while strengthening its identity as a vibrant, creative and welcoming cultural hub.

The Guidance and Voices of Cinesorriso

The figures who guide the festival shape its vision and rhythm: artistic directors, public dialogue hosts and guests. Through their perspective, Cinesorriso becomes a space of connection, where cinema takes shape on stage and in dialogue with the audience.

Discover Imperia

Imperia is the place where Cinesorriso takes shape: a seaside city that lives through public spaces, encounters and everyday life. Between the character of Oneglia and the light of Porto Maurizio, the festival becomes part of a real context, made of people, landscape and culture. Not a simple backdrop, but an essential part of the very identity of the event.

Salone Internazionale dell’Umorismo

The International Exhibition of Humour was founded in Bordighera in 1947 from an idea by Cesare Perfetto, with an exhibition of cartoons drawn from Italian and international magazines. From that experience emerged the Golden Palm dedicated to the arts of humour. In 1955 it launched the International Festival of Comic Film, active until 1968, bringing major figures of Italian cinema to the Riviera. Today the Association renews this legacy through Cinesorriso Imperia, Il Buonumore in scena.

Cinesorriso was born from the idea that a smile is not an escape, but a tool for understanding the present.
